A new reason she'll deny you oral sex - she might get throat cancer

Read ArticleArticle Source: Scientific Blogging

Researchers have conclusive evidence that human papillomavirus (HPV) causes some throat cancers in both men and women.

Oral sex, including both fellatio and cunnilingus, is the main mode of transit for oral HPV infection, the investigators say.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Take that, "cigars will give you cancer" shills. Sex can too.

Throat cancer, though? I am betting most of you are not reaching anyone's throat, though scientists probably give women lung cancer.

So, statistically, Cash, what are my chances of getting throat cancer (wonders if the chance increases with number of encounters?) compared to winning the lottery or getting hit by lightening? Is this something else that has a genetic component?

Ah, what the hell. You only live once. LOL Bring it on, boys. LOL

You have a 1 in 10,000 chance per year of getting any kind of oral cancer so the chance of getting the throat-specific kind - even if you are a porn star - is pretty low.

On the other hand, you have a miniscule 1 in 620,000 chance of getting hit by lightning per year.

So if your choice is being a porn star or playing golf during a thunderstorm ... be the porn star. 1 in 10,000 is still pretty remote and a lot more fun than being struck by lightning.

The key factor is this: *multiple* oral sex partners. Not enormous amounts of oral sex. More proof that God intends for men to be monogamous. (Women just naturally are....)

I know women who have gotten diseases from their first and only lover. There are no guarantees in life.

::gags:: Have you read the Old Testament? Just work your way through the book of Genesis. Except MAYBE for Adam, and Jewish tradition says otherwise, the rest had multiple wives or concubines.

(Women just naturally are....)

Um . . . I would LOVE to see your data on that. Because according to Family Law, Estimates reveal that almost 33 percent of men who have taken DNA tests are found not to be the biological father of the child.. Perhaps the male myth is that women are "faithful", and male violence against females who follow their natural instincts is great enough in some times and places to keep it to a minimum, but new studies show that women are genetically programmed to cheat.

Hell, if you believe in the Bible, the Mother of God cheated on her fiance. What better example could women want than that?

*calms down somewhat*

Unlike Gwenny, I'm still far too worked up and my hands are shaking too much to be able to create links, so I can't put my finger right on it, but the most current research that I've seen says that even female songbirds are relentless sluts, and the farthest thing from monogamous.

It turns out that monogamy is almost always not an evolutionarily viable strategy.

And I say this as someone who has made a serious commitment to married, monogamous existence, but who is likewise aware every minute that he is committing a crime against nature....

Except MAYBE for Adam,

Gwenny, unless I mis-remember, even Adam was a cheater. Seems to me that his first wife was a babe named Lilith, but she turned out to be too domineering for him, so he started to sneak around with that ever-accomodating Eve.

Hmmm. Sounds like just about every other infidelity account I've ever heard of. Heck, I bet that snake was actually Joey Greco!

...And Cash, as usual, you're too kind (but I'll accept your ruling in the name of gender solidarity). In self-assessment, as I look back at my comments, it occurs to me that I may have come across just a teensy eensy bit too animated.

And I think I did know that Nic was a female. I'm going to argue a) that I was just too worked up to think straight and/or b) that I was using 'man' in the proto-hippy non-gender-specific sense (see also "dude").

I am not really sure this study "proves" that, but I definitely agree with your statement. Mayother, that sort of prescient knowledge of people ( read: me ) is uncanny in its impressiveness. You get a Cash Star award for assuming that every science article related to sex was either written by or placed into circulation by me. Actually, anything with 'me' in it is generally good.

Nic darling, is is possible to compromise and have enormous amounts of oral sex with one partner???

And what's up with this shot at manhood?

More proof that God intends for men to be monogamous. (Women just naturally are....)

No one seeded this article: New study says male infidelity is 'inevitable' and I won't now because Mayother already thinks I am a perv.
But you can! Girls always do well submitting articles that slam men.

Well Cash this may be one of the first times you find value in my science perspective. The HPV is naturally occurring and in healthy immune systems it is destroyed as a routine part of the body's attack on invasive threats. The actual problem with the HPV comes in the small number of situations when the immune system can't destroy the HPV and not all of those become cancerous.

There's a lot of hype to sell yet another high priced vaccine to treat something that rarely occurs. If fact if health were the main goal they would look instead for ways to improve the immune systems for those few who can not naturally fight the virus. My own theory is that growing inability to destroy this HPV is tied to the virus promoters in the gmo foods. The more the bodies adapt to tolerating virus varieties, the better chance for some bad stuff to be accepted by a messed up immune system. Fear sells and while there's a pinch of truth there's huge pay day for the vaccine.
